Backend | .NET | Azure | APIs for AI-driven products | 2 days a week in a Ireland office | Up to £55k (DOE)

We are exclusively supporting a fast-growing SaaS business building modern software used by tens of thousands of customers across the UK and beyond.

This is not about building thin wrapper APIs around legacy systems.

The focus here is on API infrastructure that powers core products, third-party integrations and AI services, including systems that automate real end-to-end workflows, not just surface-level features.

They are now hiring an API Engineer to take real ownership of how services connect, scale and stay secure, while enabling new AI-driven capabilities across the platform.

If you enjoy building production-grade APIs that sit at the heart of real products, not just support tools, this is exactly that kind of role.

What you will be doing:

• You will design and build APIs that enable products, partners and AI services to work together, including:
• Building RESTful APIs using C# .NET, SQL and Azure
• Implementing secure authentication using OAuth, JWT and modern security patterns
• Exposing product capabilities for AI services and third-party integrations
• Producing clear API documentation using OpenAPI / Swagger
• Improving reliability with logging, monitoring and strong error handling
• Supporting CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment
• Working closely with product and AI platform teams on how services are consumed

This is a role with real technical ownership, not just tickets passed down a queue.

What they are looking for

• This suits someone who enjoys backend engineering and wants to step into more platform-level API work.
• You will likely bring:
• Strong experience building backend services in C# .NET
• Solid SQL and experience with relational databases
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and understanding HTTP fundamentals
• Familiarity with authentication approaches like OAuth or JWT
• Exposure to Azure and cloud deployment
• A testing mindset and care for clean, maintainable code

Nice to have, not essential:

• API gateways or API management platforms
• Event-driven or message-based systems
• Building APIs for external partners or developers
• Supporting AI services via APIs

This is a strong move for someone who wants to grow beyond simple CRUD services and into more platform and integration-led backend engineering.
