Job description

Infrastructure Engineer – Contract | Up to £500 per day | Inside IR35 | Initial 6 months | Liverpool | Hybrid – approximately 3 days onsite per week

We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join a busy infrastructure team supporting a large, multi-site business.

With cloud migration and wider technology transformation gathering pace, the team needs a strong infrastructure all-rounder who can get up to speed quickly, take ownership of operational issues and provide immediate additional capacity.

Your initial focus will be keeping services running smoothly, resolving complex infrastructure issues and reducing the BAU backlog, alongside supporting infrastructure changes and project delivery.

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing 3rd-line support, troubleshooting incidents and resolving underlying problems.
  • Supporting Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure, Entra ID and Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Managing VMware infrastructure, server builds, provisioning and configuration.
  • Handling firewall changes, rule management and network troubleshooting.
  • Supporting patching, upgrades, infrastructure maintenance and service availability.
  • Completing operational and compliance tickets, creating or updating SOPs and technical guides.
  • Working with internal teams and external suppliers to deliver tested changes and clear handovers.

What we’re looking for

Hands on infrastructure experience, ideally within a large, multi-site organisation, with broad technical capability across:

  • Windows Server and Active Directory, including Group Policy, DNS/DHCP and high availability.
  • Microsoft Azure, Entra ID and Microsoft 365 administration.
  • VMware and vCenter within multi-host environments.
  • Networking, including LAN/WAN, VPNs, switching and routing.
  • Firewall administration, ideally Palo Alto and Cisco ASA.
  • Enterprise storage and SAN environments.
  • Microsoft Remote Desktop Services, including published applications and session troubleshooting.

Experience with hybrid Exchange, Exchange Online, Azure Firewall and Cisco networking would also be useful.

You’ll be practical, reliable and comfortable working independently, with the ability to absorb knowledge quickly, prioritise varied tasks and contribute with limited supervision.

Interviews are being arranged quickly with start date ASAP
