Project Delivery Manager (Agile | Software Delivery) | UK Remote | 6-month contract
We have a brilliant opportunity for a high-impact Project Delivery Manager to lead a major core systems and software transformation programme.
The programme will replace two separate legacy operational systems with a single modern enterprise platform, while delivering the wider software, integration, API and data capabilities required to connect it into a complex technology ecosystem.
What's the role?
You will take ownership of delivery across a major, multi-workstream technology programme spanning software engineering, architecture, data, integration, cloud, testing and third-party platform implementation.
Working closely with Engineering, Architecture and Product/Business teams, you will coordinate the delivery required to move from two heavily embedded legacy platforms towards a modern target architecture.
Alongside implementation of the new core platform, there will be considerable engineering work required across the surrounding technology landscape, building and evolving APIs, integration services, data flows, applications and supporting services to ensure the new platform works effectively within the wider ecosystem.
You will lead delivery from discovery and technical planning through development, integration, migration, testing, cutover and adoption, managing dependencies across multiple engineering teams, technical workstreams and external suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate multiple technical workstreams spanning software engineering, APIs, integrations, applications, data, cloud infrastructure, architecture and platform implementation to ensure the successul delivery of the programme.
- Drive delivery of the software development and integration work required around the new enterprise platform, ensuring surrounding systems and applications can communicate effectively with the new core.
- Build and manage integrated delivery plans covering development sprints, technical milestones, dependencies, environments, testing, releases and production readiness.
- Ensure requirements move effectively through technical design, development, integration, testing and release, maintaining clear traceability throughout the programme.
- Drive technical readiness across development, test and production environments ahead of major releases and cutover.
- Lead delivery governance across engineering and technology workstreams, maintaining RAID logs, budgets, milestones and executive reporting.
- Identify and unblock technical delivery risks, cross-team dependencies and resource constraints before they impact critical milestones.
- Support the transition from legacy technology towards a modern, scalable and maintainable architecture, while avoiding unnecessary customisation of the selected enterprise platform.
- Maintain momentum across a complex programme involving significant business change alongside substantial software and technical delivery.
Person Requirements
- Proven experience as a Project Delivery Manager or Programme Manager delivering complex software and technology programmes.
- Experience in M&A Progammes is highly advantageous.
- Strong background working directly with software engineering and technical delivery teams, rather than purely business-change or vendor implementation programmes.
- Demonstrable experience delivering large-scale software development, application modernisation, core systems replacement or platform transformation.
- Experience coordinating multiple engineering teams and managing dependencies across complex technology landscapes.
- Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, from discovery and requirements through architecture, development, testing, release and production.
- Experience of legacy-to-modern transformation, including migration, coexistence, transition and eventual decommissioning.
- Strong Agile delivery experience and confidence operating across multiple concurrent engineering workstreams.
- Excellent dependency management, RAID management, planning, governance and senior stakeholder communication skills.
