Technical Architect | Commerce leader | UK Remote

 

We’re currently looking for a Technical Architect to get involved in a major greenfield project with one of the UK's leading eCommerce organisations.

 

You will translate high-level solution designs into robust, scalable, secure low-level designs across multiple domains. You’ll partner with Solution Architects, Engineering Principals, Developers, Product Owners and SREs and provide the technical clarity teams need to build effectively all while improving standards, reducing technical debt and supporting long term architectural goals.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Creating and maintaining detailed low-level designs.
  • Defining and publishing clear API contracts.
  • Ensuring designs meet architectural standards and governance requirements.
  • Translating solution designs into practical engineering work.
  • Identifying technical debt and helping teams prioritise improvements.
  • Leading refactoring and technical improvement initiatives.
  • Supporting the investigation and resolution of complex incidents.
  • Improving technical documentation and standards across product areas.
  • Assessing new technologies and leading proof-of-concepts.
  • Reviewing third-party designs for alignment with technical strategy.
  • Managing and optimising cloud and infrastructure costs.
  • Collaborate with architects and engineering teams to align on best practice.
  • Advise stakeholders, assess risks and support decision making.

 

Requirements:

 

You’ll have experience designing and delivering technical solutions in complex environments, supported by strong hands on knowledge of:

 

  • AWS and serverless architecture.
  • Java and Spring Boot.
  • RESTful APIs and modern API design.
  • Object-oriented design and modern coding practices.
  • Distributed systems and messaging architectures.
  • Experience identifying technical debt and driving continuous improvement.
  • Relational and non-relational databases.
  • DevOps principles and modern engineering practices.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts.

Day-to-day

Develop and maintain software applications to meet client requirements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design scalable solutions.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues promptly.
Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and standards.
Document software functionality and update technical manuals.
Monitor system performance and implement improvements.
Stay updated with emerging technologies and integrate them as needed.
Provide technical support and training to end-users.
